Caleb Rumley is a trombonist, arranger, and composer. He is the bandleader of Big Beat Big Band, a funky-RnB big band which he leads with his wife Allison Rumley. He lives in New Jersey and has had the privilege of performing at jazz clubs like Smalls, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola, and various jazz festivals.

As an arranger and composer, he has received the 360 Jazz Initiative Composer Award and is a former member of the BMI Jazz Composer’s Workshop. He was invited to be a special guest composer for the late Diane Moser on four separate occasions. He has collaborated on arrangements with artists like Steve Turre, Robin Eubanks, Duane Eubanks, and Cecil Bridgewater. His music has been performed by several middle schools, high schools, and universities.

In 2019, Big Beat Big Band released a crowdfunded full-length album that received rave reviews in the jazz press. The group has also performed with guest artists such as Peter Bernstein, Pete McGuinness, Duane Eubanks, Freddie Hendrix, and Rich Perry.

Caleb has performed as a trombonist with various groups in the area such as The Bobby Sinabria Big Band, Remember Jones, The One More Once Big Band, the New Jersey Arranger’s Big Band, and The Diane Moser Composer’s Big Band.

Caleb has had the privilege of studying with many of today’s trombone masters, including Steve Turre, John Mosca, and Robin Eubanks. His time with Robin led to a passion in electric trombone effects, which he has used on his recent recordings.

Caleb Rumley is a unique and talented trombonist with one ear in the past, and one ear in the present.
